John McAleer – Chairman of the Board
John McAleer is a Managing Director of Palisade Capital Management Ltd., a Calgary-based portfolio manager and investment fund manager. He has 29 years of experience in the Canadian energy sector in the areas of oil and gas operations, investment bank research, and private and public equity investment management. He was previously President of Andylan Capital Strategies Ltd., a Calgary-based portfolio manager and investment fund manager.
Mr. McAleer co-founded Livingstone Energy Management to pursue private equity investments in the Canadian energy sector in partnership with Lime Rock Partners from 2008 to 2010. He was previously a Managing Director of CanFund VE Management II Ltd., a Calgary-based investment manager focused on public energy investments.
Earlier, Mr. McAleer was a Principal of and Vice-President, Research at FirstEnergy Capital Corp. Mr. McAleer began his career performing exploitation engineering at Renaissance Energy Ltd., latterly as Manager, Gas Projects. He earned a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, and is a registered Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
John Chambers – Director
John Chambers is an independent businessman. Mr. Chambers was Vice Chairman, President at GMP FirstEnergy and a member of GMP FirstEnergy's Executive Committee until his retirement in November 2018. He was the Chief Executive Officer at FirstEnergy Capital Corp. prior to the firm being acquired by GMP Capital Inc. in 2016. Mr. Chambers is a candidate in the Institute of Corporate Directors program, holds a B.Sc. (Geophysics) from the University of British Columbia and a MBA in International Finance from McGill University.
Darren Gee – Director
Darren Gee is the President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Peyto Exploration & Development Corp. Mr. Gee joined Peyto in 2001 as the VP Engineering and succeeded founder Don Gray as President of Peyto Energy Trust in 2006. He assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer in January 2007.
Previously, Mr. Gee worked as a Professional Engineer for Petro-Canada, Anderson Exploration, Renaissance Energy and Husky Energy in various reservoir and exploitation engineering roles. Mr. Gee earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta (1989) and is a registered Professional Engineer with APEGA.
Brian Lavergne – Director
Brian Lavergne is the President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Storm Resources Ltd. Previously, Mr. Lavergne was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Storm Exploration Inc. (SEO) from 2004 until the sale of SEO to ARC Resources Ltd. in August 2010. Mr. Lavergne was Vice President, Production of Storm Energy Ltd. (SEL) from August 2002 until June 2003, and Chief Operating Officer from June 2003 to June 2004. From December 1998 until August 2002, Mr. Lavergne was employed with Storm Energy Inc. (SEI), his last position being Vice President, Production. From February 1994 to December 1998, Mr. Lavergne was employed by Renaissance Energy Ltd. in positions of increasing responsibility including Exploitation Manager and Operations District Manager.
Mr. Lavergne earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta (1989) and is a registered Professional Engineer with APEGA.
Robert Maitland – Director
Rob Maitland is a Chartered Accountant with over 35 years of senior business experience, primarily in the oil and gas industry. Mr. Maitland graduated from the University of Calgary in 1975 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1977. He left Peat Marwick Mitchell in 1980 and was the VP, Finance and Chief Financial officer of various private and publicly listed oil and gas companies from 1985 until he retired from active employment in 2007.
Mr. Maitland's tenure included Fairborne Energy Ltd., Canadian Midstream Services Ltd., Pan East Petroleum Corporation, Shiningbank Energy Income Fund, Post Energy and Summit Resources Ltd. In 2006 he completed his designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D). He has been active as a director of public and private oil and gas companies, a public oil and gas service company and several not-for-profit boards. He presently is a member of the board of directors of Perpetual Energy Inc. He is a member and former director of the Calgary Association of Chartered Accountants, a former director of the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society and a member of Financial Executives International.
David Burghardt – President & CEO, Director
David Burghardt is the President & Chief Executive Officer of Altura Energy Inc. Mr. Burghardt is a Professional Engineer with 32 years of multi-discipline domestic and international experience with a background in all industry functions, particularly asset exploitation, reservoir management and production engineering. Before Altura, Mr. Burghardt was the Managing Director of the French Business Unit (FBU) for Vermilion Energy Inc. The FBU daily production was approximately 11,000 boepd, with P1+P2 reserves of 51.6 million barrels reflecting an After Tax value (discount factor of 5%) of $1.7 billion, and capital budgets up to $150MM. He was responsible for a staff of 150 employees and approximately 350 contracting/consulting employees. Prior to this position, Mr. Burghardt was the Director Exploitation Europe and Manager Exploitation for Vermilion’s French subsidiary based in southwest France.
Previously, Mr. Burghardt was President/CEO/Director of Kerogen Petroleum Ltd (a formative entity of Twin Butte Energy Ltd) and prior to that the Managing Director – International Engineering for Equatorial Energy Inc, an Alberta-based public company with operations in Canada & Indonesia. He was a co-founder of two Alberta-based companies including Kerogen Petroleum Ltd (private) and Bison Resources Ltd (public), where he held the position of VP Engineering/Director. He previously worked with Northstar Energy Corp and Chevron Canada Resources in various reservoir and exploitation engineering roles. Mr. Burghardt received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1987 from the University of Saskatchewan and is a member of APEGA.
